FAQ

  • IS LASER ENGRAVING FOOD SAFE?
Laser engraving does not involve any chemicals. It also does not involve stamping, inking, printing, or gluing. Laser engraving is burning a design into the surface of what is being engraved and burning the design several layers deep. When completed, the design resembles carving versus burning. It will not rub off or fade and is there to stay. If the item you had engraved is food safe, the engraving will not change that. It can be washed and cleaned according to the care instructions for that type of surface.

  • WHAT IS LASER ENGRAVING EXACTLY?
The engraving process is a two-part process. First, a graphic design is created using software compatible with our Co2 laser engraving machine. Some graphics are extremely detailed while others are simpler. Graphic designs can involve picture art and/or words in various fonts. Once the graphic design is completed and approved by our customers, we may do a little prep work by oiling, taping, etc. the item being engraved. This prep work ensures that the graphic design is as sharp as possible and prevents soot from adhering to the item being engraved. At that point, we begin the second part of the process. The second part of the process is actually engraving the purchased item. The engraving process is a burning process. There is no stamping, inking, or printing involved. The graphic design is interfaced with the laser engraving machine causing the laser head to move across the material and burn the design into the surface of the material being engraved. Every material is unique and burns differently. Even the hardness and age of wood can affect the burn differently with varying depths and colors of burn. The result is that the design is layers deep. The time to laser engrave an item also varies depending on the material, as well as size and complexity of the design. It may take a few minutes or a couple of hours.
  • WILL LASER ENGRAVED DESIGNS RUB OFF, FLAKE OFF, OR BLEED?"
Any personalization or design that has been laser engraved will not rub off, flake off, fade, or bleed. The personalization/design is actually burned, several layers deep, into the surface. It does not involve stamping, inking, dying, printing, gluing, or painting*. When completed, the design resembles carving and is there to stay. *If a customer wants a deep engraved design color-filled for an item not used for food, a colored wax/paint may be used.
